Who’s the Boss? ran from 1984 to 1992 (189 episodes) and starred Tony Danza as a very traditional Italian Tony Micelli who gets a job as a very non-traditional live-in housekeeper for an extremely high-strung career woman, Angela Bower (played by Judith Light). Tony’s wife is deceased and he has a daughter, Samantha (Alyssa Milano), while Angela is divorced and has a son, Jonathan (Danny Pintauro). Added to the mix, is Angela’s vixen of a mother, Mona Robinson (Katherine Helmond).

Following the heels of Who’s the Boss? came another sitcom about someone who seems totally inappropriate for a job, getting hired and then doing it superbly…The Nanny, a series that ran from 1993 to 1999 (144 episodes). Starring Fran Drescher as Fran Fine, a very nasal-voiced cosmetic-sales woman who gets hired as the nanny for the three children of a rich British widower, Maxwell Sheffield (Charles Shaughnessy). There is also a very witty buttler (Niles, played by Daniel Davis) and love-sick business partner (Miss Babcock played by Lauren Lane) who have a hilarious love-hate relationship with each other.
