Cover to Cover 8

When I was growing up, I couldn’t afford the luxuries of buying comic books to read, so I took every opportunity I could get, to borrow my favourite, Archie which first appeared in 1941. Based upon an American gang of teenage friends who attend Riverdale High School: Archibald “Archie” Andrews, Elizabeth “Betty” Cooper, Veronica Lodge, Reginald “Reggie” Mantle and Forsythe “Jughead” Jones; all characters created by Bob Montana. At this age, it’s quite nostalgic to pick up a copy to read about Archie’s clumsiness, and his love-triangle with Betty and Veronica; Jughead’s sarcasm and obsession with eating; Reggie’s vanity and practical jokes…they always still succeed in making me laugh.

In 1969, the Archies (a fictional music band allegedly comprising those characters you mentioned) had a NUMBER 1 pop hit called "Sugar Sugar".

"Sugar, Sugar" was the number one single of 1969, according to Billboard, a feat yet to be duplicated by any other fictional band. It spent four weeks at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 from September 20, 1969 and eight weeks at the top of the UK singles chart.

On February 5, 2006, "Sugar, Sugar" was inducted into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame.
The composers are Canadian.
